Big Toilet Project
The Big Toilet Project is the world’s biggest toilet training study - an online UK citizen science project created in collaboration with Prof. Mark Miodownik and the UCL Plastic Waste Innovation Hub (launched January 2025).
In response to an increase in average toilet training ages worldwide and diaper waste this project aims to gather information on toilet training opinions and behaviours and to help advise governments on policies to help reduce plastic pollution from diaper waste.
This project is one of several UCL research initiatives from the UKRI funded project The Comfort Loop, investigating ways to reduce absorbent hygiene product waste.
